Helicopter crashed down in LapuLapu City(Phils)

Helicopter kills 9

ABOUT two hours into a training flight yesterday, an eight-seater Huey (UH1H)helicopter gunship of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) was on its way back to its Mactan base when it crashed on two tricycles, killing nine people.

Four others were seriously injured, after the helicopter hit a high-tension wire and plowed into Humay-Humay Road, Sitio Goso, Barangay Gun-ob in Lapu-Lapu City about 5:40 p.m. yesterday. The driver and six passengers of a red tricycle and the co-pilot and mechanic from the PAF's 2nd Tactical Operations Wing (TOW) died.

Pinoy Votes: Sun.Star Election 2007

Of seven persons in the tricycle, five were female, one of whom was reportedly pregnant, and one was a teenager whose body was cut in two.Sen. Panfilo Lacson, who was campaigning for reelection in the area with another senatorial candidate Zosimo Paredes, said their vehicle passed by the crash site 30 seconds before the chopper went down.

"It was very fast, very quick," Lacson told reporters.

TOW Chief Mario Lacson said the chopper was on a training flight at the South Road Properties and was heading back to the Mactan Benito Ebuen Air Base when the accident happened.Allen Tapusok, supervisor of the Air Transportation Office (ATO) Tower
Control Center, said the Huey helicopter took off at 3:48 p.m. and was reported to have crashed in Gun-ob about two hours later.

All the fatalities were brought to the Rolling Hills Memorial Chapel in
Mandaue City.

As of press time, only seven were identified: 1st Lt. Jesus Imbat and Staff Sgt. Michael Gabino, the co-pilot and mechanic of the helicopter; and civilians Rey Ledesma, Odelon Acampado, Laura Jumao-as, Rey Ledesma, Ma.Nenita Dungon and Genevieve Garcia.Gabino was declared dead on arrival at the Mactan Doctors'Hospital,
while Imbat died at Perpetual Succour Hospital in Cebu City.

Ledesma, Acampado, Jumao-as, Garcia and the two unidentified civilians died on the spot.Capt. Allan Villagarcia, the pilot, and Master Sgt. Johnny delos Reyes, the
gunner, suffered serious injuries.Lito Casin, owner of a billiard hall and an eatery that sits only 10 meters from the crash site, said he saw the helicopter going down but its propeller was not moving.

Seconds later, the helicopter hit the concrete electric post and power
supply was cut off.Casin said the impact hurled the helicopter onto the road, where it hit two tricycles. With its tail on the high-tension wire, the helicopter rolled on the red tricycle, squashing it.The driver and lone passenger of the yellow tricycle were injured and were taken to the Mactan Doctors' Hospital for treatment. Their names were not available because hospital security guards refused entry to the

Jun Kinaadman, who works with Casin, said that had the helicopter not hit the electric post, it could have crashed into the houses in the thickly populated area.

Kinaadman said that after snagged the high-tension wire, the propeller knocked the small resthouse of the Hermie Ymbong Compound. A portion of the rotor tail hit the guardhouse while the sodium lamp of the post was thrown several meters away. After the helicopter landed on top of the tricycle, Kinaadman said he tried to rescue the pregnant woman but she was already dead.He turned to the man, who turned out to have been decapitated. The teenage girl was cut in two."Dead on the spot tanang pasahero sa red tricycle. Walay mabuhi sa sitwasyon nga ang gitas-an sa tricycle taga-tuhod na lang. (All the passengers of the red tricycle were dead on the spot. Nobody could have survived. Crushed, the tricycle was only knee-high)," Kinaadman said.

The chopper's high-octane gas started to flow to the road, prompting some residents to cover it with soil.

PO3 Jonathan Espinosa, who was on board Police Mobile 09 traveling on Humay-Humay road at that time, said he saw the helicopter drop, spinning, until it hit the electric post. The Rolling Hills crew took all the seven dead tricycle passengers,
while the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation rushed the injured victims to the
hospitals.Lt. Col. Ernesto Milo, also of the 2nd TOW, said that PAF personnel sprayed
the helicopter with water laced with chemicals to prevent it from exploding.

Lacson said the PAF will help the families of all the fatalities and those injured.
"We will conduct an investigation to find out the cause of the accident. We will help the families of those who died and those who are admitted in the hospitals," Lacson said.

The Lapu-Lapu City police headed by Senior Supt. Louie Oppus closed the
Humayhumay road pending the removal of the helicopter that blocked the

"ANYWAY" by Martina Mcbride

Through watching American Idol tonight,I heard this new song by Martina Mcbride.Great song with a very encouraging lyrics. It can lift up to those who are in despair. It's kinda Christian song and I'm lovin it.Here it is:

Martina McBride/Brad Warren/Brett Warren (BMI)

You can spend your whole life buildin'
Somethin' from nothin'
One storm can come and blow it all away
Build it anyway

You can chase a dream
That seems so out of reach
And you know it might not ever come your way
Dream it anyway

God is great, but sometimes life ain't good
When I pray it doesn't always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway
I do it anyway

This world's gone crazy and it's hard to believe
That tomorrow will be better than today
Believe it anyway
You can love someone with all your heart
For all the right reasons
And in a moment they can choose to walk away
Love 'em anyway

(Repeat Chorus)

You can pour your soul out singin'
A song you believe in
That tomorrow they'll forget you ever sang
Sing it anyway
Yeah sing it anyway

I sing
I dream
I love anyway

Happy Birthday Mama!

Yesterday,I finally had my cervical/smear test.Result is yet to be done in 3 weeks time.I was told by the Doctor that my blood pressure was rather too low.Not only that she also say I am very tiny and my weight is not balance with my height. She then asked,If I do missed meals,or not eating regularly.

It is very sad for me to think that I had almost diagnosed of eating disorders.I replied back that I am still breastfeeding my son and can't afford to miss a meal.I have 3 meals a day and some nibbles in between and more often I have a midnight snack. That should be plenty, don't you think?I'm only 5 foot and 2 inches for heaven sake.I am much heavier compare 2 yrs ago,I only weighed about 38 kilograms while now I weighed 42/43 kg's and how's that become a problem?I don't look malnourished,do I?

Anyway, there's nothing serious to worry about. All it takes is eating more specifically on dark green veg/fruits,red meat or any food that are rich in iron.I've said that my BP has always been low,I probably got it from my Mum.So opposite with my Dad because he is over average/highblood I should say.

Till here guys and before I get off I would like to say thank you to all my visitors and friends for all you thoughtful tags and comments.

Have a safe day everyone!

Tag from Anna/Weekend Summary

I have been tag by ANNA and have to write down my reasons for blogging.I simply love blogging, this has been my comfort zone eversince. Here are my Reasons:

*I was encouraged by a close friend, GINA to make a blogsite and should start blogging. After a months of refusing I eventually gave a try.Firstly I register as a blogger at but for some reasons I moved to blogspot then on to Angelic-pink and now I'm back to Blogspot once again.

*Blogging is one easy way for expressing feelings,a great way of exchanging ideas,I learned some online stuff such as editing html codes as you can all see how I keep changing my blog looks.By trying I gradually learned bit by bit.

*My only simple pleasures. As like others I love photography, digital scrapping, surfing the net and whatever come across my way that are sort of humorous/funny story,it can be historical, entertainment, events, news that I would considered sharing without hesitation.

*Family and friends are able to get through on to me by simply clicking/searching my blog site. They can easily track on me anytime anywhere and vice versa.

*Great things about blogging is; it helps a lot better about my English construction.Though not perfect but at least I can see improvements. In hindsight English language is very considerate and forgiving,no matter how badly written is the grammar if the person reading is smart enough to understand in its content then grammar would not be a problem. Therefore I don't and never did or never will judge other's grammatical error. To be honest my English ain't great,I'm certain about it.Therefore reading post blog-to-blog particularly the entries that are written in English would be my target. Here's a keen learner so,feel free to correct my grammar.

*Through blogging I have met loads of online friends.I mean nice people globally, not just filipina but different nationalities.

*Great tips about motherhood or good parenting.Blogging is definitely superb and amazing way of showing our inner ability and knowledge expansionism.I'm so glad/proud to be a blogger.

So these are my reasons for blogging. Thanks dear Anna for the tagged!

Just a quick recap over our weekend:

Saturday:Trip to Wimbledon Village(where Hubby's Auntie live)Approximately time travel 45-50 minutes from our place.Plus 30 minutes stop over for our lunch at filipino cafe.Because I was craving for a filipino dish lately.

Purposed:To see Great Granny before she go back to Devon(west part of England).
That was successfully great day and granny simply adores my two monster(Kath&Christian).

Other Events on that day:It was the "Grand National" horse racing where Great Granny won more or less 150 british pounds sterling(nearly $300).By betting a pound in each way.As generous as her,she manage to gave us 10 pounds each so that was worth a trip.(Laugh)

Sunday:We had a trip to Kent also known as "Garden of England".

Purposed:To see their Grammar School and the Prep School that were planning to send our kids in the near future.Private education is highly recommended these days.

In 2 years time Kath would be going to a Preparatory School more likely at the of 7 to 11.Were planning to send her to private school which cost 8-9k per year around $15,000 dollars.Yes it is quite an expensive school but for our kids future no such thing as expensive with a hope that by the age of 12 she will then be able to qualify herself into a grammar school which is free for those who are academically bright kids.No doubt 100% that she will pass the academic test.(Smile-wink)

While were there, we took advantage to look up all the houses that was up on the online market. The house that we like best is the beautiful 4 bedrooms detached house which located half-way to both school that were aiming to send our kids.Hubby absolutely love it,but a little price problem of course. It is kinda pushing the edge of our price bracket(which is up to 400 gran only, about $800,000 dollars is our budget). But were only house hunting at this time, but in 4-5 months later we will definitely buying one to move on to,and hoping this house that we like would still be on the market with a hope that the price will then drop a little bit and we will be laughing.[LOL]!Looking to sale this place we were at now or maybe rent this out. Will just wait and see.

Anyway here's a little something to shares:

Christian's ride!

My monster!

Kath's bicycle!

Christian insisted to have a picture taking, hehehe. As we stop by to have our lunch in a filipino cafe at Merton Abbey.

At the back of Hubby's Aunt's house.

Pose lang ko hehehe

A pose with hubby,christian felt a little bit left-out,lols!

Our little girl striking a pose.

Playing with the tiny rocks.

A pose before nabungi---kay namomo after ani nga pose hehehehe.

My List of Favourites Stars

Angelina Jolie (born June 4, 1975) is an American-french film actress, a former fashion model and a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency. She is often cited by popular media as one of the world's most beautiful women and her off-screen life is widely reported. She has received three Golden Globe Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and an Academy Award.Angelina is one of my all time favourites,I think she is indeed quite extra-ordinary.Imagine she made her first screen debut at the of five, alongside her father in the Hal-Ashby directed-comedy"Looking to get Out"a very obscure film mirroring the very young and still obscure Angelina.Aside from her natural beauty, she is one true amazing star.

I adores Thalia simply because she is very talented. She is a great actress,a great singer, and a great dancer.Love her humbleness and being so down-to-earth especially mingling her fans. Also she has a very beautiful face and perfect body.Seems everything is perfect for Thalia.A white straight sparkly teeth,Beautiful and lovely smile.Unmeasurable wealth, loving husband Motola(former husband of Mariah Carey). She has this sugary smile and bubbly character.Above all Thalia is a God-fearing.Isn't she perfect?Well I know that perfectness is unexistence.Only "GOD"is perfect!Would it be OK that thalia is almost perfect?I guess so....

This sultry look of Jessica who made her famous.Yes,her awesome talent who made her to hollywood and I guess will be the next Angelina,I bet.Her incredible figure and olive complexion drags people attentions. She is absolutely stunning as they call it"drop dead gorgoeus".

He studied alongside Daniel Craig and Alistair McGowan among others, and left right before graduating after snagging the role of Private Mick Hopper in Dennis Potter's 1993 six-part Channel 4 series "Lipstick on Your Collar" (1993) (mini). His first notable role was that of Alex Law in Shallow Grave (1994), directed by Danny Boyle, written by John Hodge and produced by Andrew MacDonald. This was followed by The Pillow Book (1996) and Trainspotting (1996), the latter of which brought him to the public's attention. He is now one of the most critically acclaimed actors of his generation, and portrays Obi-wan Kenobi in the first three Star Wars episodes. McGregor is married to French production designer Eve Mavrakis, whom he met while working on the TV show "Kavanagh QC" (1995). They married in France in the summer of 1995 and have two daughters, Clara Mathilde and Esther Rose. McGregor has formed a production company with friends Jonny Lee Miller, Sean Pertwee, Jude Law and Sadie Frost. Called Natural Nylon, they hope it will make innovative films that do not conform to Hollywood standards.

He became known in the late 1990s, after his involvement in the film Good Will Hunting, and has since become a Hollywood leading man, having starred in several big budget films.
Personal life
Affleck had a high-profile romance with actress Gwyneth Paltrow in 1998, following her breakup with actor Brad Pitt. In 2002, he began dating actress/singer Jennifer Lopez, whom he met on the set of Gigli. The same year, his engagement to Lopez was announced, and the relationship between the two received a lot of attention by the entertainment media. Both subsequently lost fans and credibility, probably due in part to the saturation of Affleck/Lopez interviews and projects, and especially after the notorious failure of Gigli, which in part was due to the negative publicity which led to the couple being dubbed "Bennifer". The couple broke up in 2004, both blaming the media attention - including an alleged incident in which Affleck partied with Christian Slater and some lap dancers in Canada[4]. This negative publicity and media attention was also brought along to the 2004 Jersey Girl, which also was a box office failure.

Affleck subsequently dated his Daredevil co-star, actress Jennifer Garner, and the two were engaged after nine months of seeing each other. In May 2005, it was announced that Garner was pregnant and the couple were married on June 29, 2005 on the Caribbean islands of Turks and Caicos. Garner gave birth to a daughter, Violet Anne Affleck, on December 1, 2005. The couple currently lives in Santa Monica, California and Cambridge, Massachusetts.

History and Origin of Mother's Day

We had celebrated our mother's day here in UK a month ago.But I know May is the most known of celebrating the Mother's Day.However I found out that there are few Countries also celebrating their Mother's Day in different dates and months. But after all,it has the same outcomes.

Early Tributes to Mother

Some historian believes that the earliest celebrations of Mother's Day was the ancient spring festival dedicated to mother goddesses. The ancient Greek empire had a spring honouring Rhea, wife of Cronus and mother of the gods and goddesses. In Rome there was a Mother's Day-like festival dedicated to the worship of Cybele, also a mother goddess.Ceremonies in her honour began some 250 years before Christ was born. This Roman religious celebration known as Hilaria, lasted for three days from March 15-18.

Mother's Day history began nearly a thousand years B.C. with the Phrygians of Asia Minor. Their cult honored the Great Mother, Matar Kubileya, at their annual spring festival. This cult was introduced to Greece as early as the 5th century B.C. where the Great Mother became associated with Rhea. In the 3rd century B.C., the Romans knew Matar Kubileya as Cybele. After the introduction of Christianity, this celebration was held on the 4th Sunday of Lent, in honor of the Virgin Mary.

Mothering Sunday

In the U.K. during the 1600s, the celebration was expanded to honor all the mothers of England. The 4th Sunday of Lent was recognized as "Mothering Sunday." On this day, the poor servants of the wealthy were given the day off to return home to their mothers. Special church services were held in honor of the Virgin Mary, and mothers at home enjoyed flowers, small gifts and "mothering cakes."

Mother's Day in the U.S.

In the mid 1850s an Appalachian homemaker named Anna Jarvis wanted to raise awareness of the poor conditions in her community. She believed that mothers would best support the cause, so she established a day called "Mother's Work Day." The Mother's Work Clubs that developed from her efforts raised funds to provide medicine, milk, food and domestic help to those who had tuberculosis. During the Civil War, these women provided medical assistance to soldiers on both sides of the war. Near the end of the war, Mrs. Jarvis held a Mother's Friendship Day, on which people on both sides could come together peacefully. To the surprise of many, the day was a success and was a turning point in Mother's Day history.

In 1907, nearly two years after the death of Mrs. Anna Jarvis, her daughter, also named Anna, began work to memorialize the life of her mother. Her mother's church in West Virginia held the first celebration on the second anniversary of Mrs. Jarvis' death, May 12, 1907. White carnations, Mrs. Jarvis' favorite flower, were handed out at the service. Miss Jarvis also began to campaign in earnest to prominent businessmen, clergymen and politicians to create a national Mother's Day. By 1911, nearly all the states were celebrating the day on their own, but it wasn't until 1914 that President Woodrow Wilson declared the second Sunday in May a national holiday, Mother's Day.

At first Mother's Day was celebrated with church services and by writing letters to mom. Slowly this evolved as letters turned into Mother's Day cards. Flowers, gifts and other tokens of affection eventually accompanied these cards. Miss Anna Jarvis, the recognized founder of the modern Mother's Day, felt that the commercialization of the day was taking away from the sentiment and reportedly commented shortly before her death that she regretted working to establish the holiday. Despite her disappointment, Mother's Day flourished in the U.S.

Mother's Day Around the World

People all over the world spend at least a day every year to honor their mother. In the U.S. and several other parts of the world, including Japan, Australia and parts of Europe, Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in May. In the UK, Mothering Sunday falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent. Elsewhere in the world mothers are honored:

on the second Sunday in February in Norway
on the first day of spring in Lebanon
on the first Sunday in May in South Africa
on May 10 in Mexico
on the last Sunday in May in France and Sweden
two weeks before Christmas in Serbia.
on the second Sunday in October in Argentina.
Also in October, the Hindus of India hold Durga Puja, a ten-day festival in honor of Durga, the Divine Mother. In Spain and Portugal, December 8 is a day set aside to pay tribute to the Virgin Mary and for children to honor their mother.

Each country has its own way to celebrate Mother's Day, but it all comes down to one thing: Showing your mother you care in some special way.

After Reading Irel's post About good Friday!

I was so intrigue after reading Irel's post. So,I decided to google it to know it's history and here is the best result.I thought I'd share it to all of you.

Origins, Rituals, and Traditions of Good Friday

Of the numerous Christian holy days on the liturgical calendar, Good Friday is perhaps the most solemn and profound memorial. The dates of Good Friday, which vary by calendar year, occur between March 20th and April 23rd. Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus and falls on the last Friday before Easter. It is the pinnacle of Holy Week, and Christians observe this day with great humility and reverence.

History of Good Friday
As early as the first century, the Church set aside every Friday as a special day of prayer and fasting. It was not until the fourth century, however, that the Church began observing the Friday before Easter as the day associated with the crucifixion of Christ. First called Holy or Great Friday by the Greek Church, the name "Good Friday" was adopted by the Roman Church around the sixth or seventh century.

Good Friday Origins
There are two possible origins for the name "Good Friday". The first may have come from the Gallican Church in Gaul (modern-day France and Germany). The name "Gute Freitag" is Germanic in origin and literally means "good" or "holy" Friday. The second possibility is a variation on the name "God's Friday," where the word "good" was used to replace the word "God," which was often viewed as too holy for commoners to speak.

Good Friday Traditions
Good Friday rituals and traditions are distinct from those of all other Church observances and add to Good Friday's considerable significance. The entire ceremony is somber, with priests and deacons dressing in black vestments. The pulpit and the altar are bare, and no candles are lit. The purpose behind the solemn presentation is to create an awareness of grief over the sacrifice of God's only begotten Son.

Good Friday Church Rituals
Starting anytime between midnight and 3 a.m., priests and other clerics begin to recite specific prayers. At the morning ceremony, the priest or church official recites lessons from the scriptures. Afterwards, there is a succession of prayers asking for God's mercy and forgiveness on all mankind.

At the noon hour comes the Adoration of the Cross, where a representation of the True Cross is unveiled and the clergy and laity pay homage to the sacrifice of Christ. In the Jerusalem Church, a remnant of the True Cross itself is presented for the ceremony. Next comes the Mass of the Presanctified, in which the priest or church official takes Communion from the host that was blessed during the Maundy Thursday ceremony. The ceremony concludes around 3 p.m. with a procession, which is followed by evening prayers.

In many Protestant churches, Good Friday observances begin at noon and last until 3 p.m. This coincides with the hours (according to the scriptures) that Jesus hung on the cross. These services often include sermons on the last seven phrases that Jesus spoke while being crucified. Other services include re-enactments of the Passion according to the Gospel of John, processions of the Stations of the Cross, and the singing of appropriate hymns. All observances add to Good Friday significance and to the richness of meaning for those who know the history of the observance.

To many Christians, Good Friday is felt as a day of sorrow. It is a time to grieve over the sin of man and to meditate upon the love that God has so generously bestowed upon humanity in giving His only Son for the redemption of sin.

How We Spent Our Easter?

We simply spent Easter with our family and love ones.On black Saturday we went to see Granny/Great Granny at Charlwood just 15 minutes drive from our place.Spent few hours with her as she was keen to see Kathleen and Christian. At 94 yrs old,she seems to be in a good form and had a good times with the kids.Sadly we had to leave in hindsight we all had fun and most especially Great granny who is so bubbly after a good old play with her great grandchildren(kath&chan2x).Left at Charlwood around 6 pm and headed to Amberly Sussex(FIL's house).Arrived exactly 7 pm and it was perfect time, the dinner was being served(I was so hungry)that I grabbed nibbles right away and was stuffing my fat faced until I felt so bloated.Sunday morning we went to the local church together with my in laws. They had an hour service only, was pretty quick than I used to.In the church that I grew up where we had a sunset-to-sunset service, which for me is a great way to worship the "LORD GOD".Anyhow it doesn't matter as long as we give HIM our time and we don't forget to thanked HIM in everyday.

Sunday lunch,we had a roast lamb, roast potatoe and boiled vegg such as brussels sprouts, parsnip, courgette and of course carrots for bunny(laugh). After our lunch we had our Easter Egg Hunting, since we only had 2 kids(kath and christian)and they had so much fun looking for the Eggs.of course Daddy and Grandpa didn't hide it well, they thought that the kids would have hard time finding it,and they were proven wrong because Kath found the eggs straigt away.

We headed home after our tea time and arrived safe last night around 8pm.Christian was a bit fractious,it might have something to do that he is overtired. He played all day run around in Granpa's garden and didn't have his afternoon nap.He did'nt sleep until midnight and was sick all over in our bed.Poor baby!

Anyway here is our Easter pictures to shares.Since this year our weather was much much nicer compare to our Easter last year that is wet, cold and horrible. Thanks to God!

With my little madaam/bossy daughter hahahaha.

With my little naughty monkey hehehehe.

Me on magnolia tree.Last year this tree was full of blossoms and was really blooming so well unlike this year it's less likely to bloom. So I think me in there will help a lot to look the tree more beautiful hahahahaha(kidding folks).

Our little monkey who only eats nothing but banana lol.He really is addicted to banana. Can't live without banana, huh!Everymeal time he always point to where the banana is being placed lol.

Our one beautiful daughter who loves flowers.Soon as she see's any flowers she will settled happily. This was taken on Easter Sunday in Grandpa's garden.

He now knows how to pose lol. Here we go hubby striking a pose just to make me happy, lol.

Thanks all for your kind visits.Happy Monday!

Easter;Its Roots and Symbols

f late I have been noticing, in addition to the usual attacks on Halloween and Christmas, some attacks by some Christians on the Easter holiday. (It is a welcome relief to see these attacks on Easter not (mostly) being converted to attacks on the Roman Catholic Church, as they tend to be in the tracts against Christmas and Halloween).

Easter falls in the Spring, right around the Vernal Equinox, and is a most amazing season indeed. Plants come alive again from the winter season, when they seemed to be dead.

Primitive cultures found this to be a very sacred and holy thing, and have honored it in many ways down thru recorded history. And, as one might expect, it has been invariably symbolized by the rebirth of a dead deity. From linguistic evidence, I feel we can safely assume that this concept is at least 30, 000 to 50, 000 years old, and perhaps older.

Spring has been, and is, the season for much merrymaking and fun, much of the time with an emphasis on sexual fertility. New Orleans' famous Mardi Gras, or Rio de Janeiro's Carnival are two good examples of modern spring festivals with a blatant sexual aspect, when "all rules are off" and almost anything can happen. These festivals in the Christian world end at Lent, when forty days of penitential fasting ensue before Easter itself.

This fertility aspect of the season may be sublimated by the "Easter Dance" or "Spring Prom" found in many educational institutions of the English-speaking world.

The Jewish tradition of the Middle East was a bit more puritanical. Passover (Hebrew: Pesach, when all the first-born of Egypt were slain) is a celebration of the Flight from Egypt (and has become a re-affirmation of the values of personal freedoms) and not fertility oriented at all.

Lambs were sacrificed in the Temple at Jerusalem, and from this sacrifice comes the symbol of Jesus as the "Lamb of God," the final and perfect sacrifice.

Jesus, "on the night that he was betrayed," apparently celebrated Passover with his disciples (and thus established the Christian Communion rite). This is why Easter is so close in timing to Passover.

But many Christian Churches, in the early days of Christianity, could not agree on the date of Easter. This was the primary disagreement between the Celtic (Culdee) Church and Rome for many years, with the Celtic Church keeping the holiday on the fourteenth day after the paschal moon (according to the rule of the Council of Arles in 314 CE, and in spite of St. Augustine and the "Synod of the Oak") and the Roman observing it between the fifteenth and twenty-first. This was pretty much settled at the famous Council of Whitby in 664 CE, with Aldhelm, the Bishop of Sherborne, persuading the Celtic Christians in Cornwall to conform to the Roman usage in the early part of the eighth century CE.

Easter is apparently named after the pagan goddess Eostre (Latin: Oestre), an Anglo-Saxon maiden-goddess of fertility. Some might link her to Ishtar / Astarte, the Middle Eastern goddess, but such a link is only apparent. The identification of Ishtar with Astarte was instituted by Sargon the Great when he engaged in his wars of conquest, to make his goddess the goddess of the conquered areas.

The similarities in names are probably because of the very early lingual connections mentioned above. Their languages have a common Indo-European ancestry, and god-names change slowly indeed.

This goddess-name may be older than we suspect. The "Oestre" name in Latin apparently derives from the Greek, and has it's roots in a word that means "frenzy." We see this word again in English in "estrus," meaning a female mammal 'in heat' and able to conceive, and there we see the meaning behind the "frenzy" definition.

Since we also see a similar word in Anglo-Saxon, and cognates of "Ost" or "East" only appear in the Germanic languages (that includes English) we might look at the origins of the root-word as being before Greek and the Germanic languages separated. This is advanced only as speculation, but I feel it is worthy of the attention of better scholars than I.

but I digress ......

I have read that since Easter is named after a pagan goddess, then we should not celebrate the holiday. Well, then it follows that we should not participate in any of the days of the week, either, because they are named after pagan deities, too.

The seven day week was developed in Babylon (O horrors!) ca. 2300 BCE, and consisted of days to honor the five visible planets and the sun and moon. Their week consisted of: Shamash (Sun's day), Sin (Moon's day), Nebo (Mercury), Istar (Venus,) Nergal (Mars), Marduk (Jupiter) and Ninurta (Saturn.)

The names we use come borrowed from the Norse deities associated with the same planets: Sun's Day, Moon's Day, Tiu's Day, Wodin's Day, Thor's Day, Freya's Day and Saturn's Day.

And the months of January, March and June are right out, being named for the Roman deities Janus, Mars and Juno.

Oh ... yeah .... and the concept of the 360 degree circle and our 24 hour day are Babylonian-based, too.

As with most seasonal festivals, it is a festival of light ..... we see candles and solar images right and left: candles are ceremoniously lit in many churches, and many popular myths record that one can see the sun dancing, or the image of the Lamb in the solar orb, at sunrise on Easter Day. Bonfires are common, too.

We also see many customs that seem to be related to crop growth rituals. In Macedonia the young girls would swing from swings on the village green, and people were "lifted" (ceremoniously raised up while sitting in chairs) in England as late as James I and VI. These seem to be an encouragement for the crops to grow high.

Water also figures in these celebrations, from a popular medieval English peasant belief that running water became holy (and thus was endowed with magical properties on Easter morning) to sprinkling and squirting the girls of the village, accompanied by much fun and horseplay.

Flowers such as the lily play a major part in Easter decorations, as well they should for a Spring festival.

The Easter Rabbit is very interesting, and one of the oldest symbols of the Spring. In Indo-European mythology, the hare is sacred to the Goddess, being supposedly seen in the markings on the moon (another goddess symbol, though not universal by any means).

In Germany, children were told that the Easter Hare would bring them eggs on Easter if they were good. This is the origin of our Easter Bunny. It is first mentioned in Germany in the 1500's.

Eggs are an obvious symbol of rebirth. In the eyes and mind of men they seem to be a miraculous springing forth of life from a cold and dead object. Mithras, Tammuz, Re (Egypt), Brama (India) and P'an Ku (China) all were said to have been born from eggs. The link to Easter is an obvious one.

We don't know when the custom of eggs at Easter originated. There is a grave excavated at Worms, Germany that contains two goose eggs painted with stripes and dots, but it is unknown if the grave is Christian. We do have evidence of Easter eggs from 11th Century CE Poland and from Britain ca. Edward I.

Pope Gregory the Great (590-604 CE) forbade eggs during Lent, and they therefore became a great delicacy after Lent at Easter.

The Easter Parade is dying out, more is the pity. This was a custom of promenading along the main streets in your best spring finery, saying hello to all your friends and showing off a bit. It was quite the social occasion for many years, reaching it's real peak in the Gay '90s.

Now we have commercialized parades chock full of advertising and secular motifs, or giant Easter sales in the department stores, and "The Easter Parade" is just a quaint old song.

Of course, if you want to get sticky about pagan symbols, the fish symbol was used for Dagon (whence comes many of the attacks on the Pope, who wears a "fish-hat"), while the Dove (the popular symbol of the Holy Spirit) was sacred to Astarte, Ishtar and Aphrodite.

The image of the Dove reborn out of the mouth of the Dolphin was quite a common Mediterranean pagan image .... and the word "jonah" means "dove."

Ring any bells?

Even the Latin for "catacomb," the tombs under Rome, was "columbaria," which means "dovecote."

All things are made new in Spring ..... even old mythos! The absorption into Christianity of the old pagan myths and legends is only natural; we see it again and again, even in the pagan mythos .... a new religion takes from the old such things as it can use to it's own profit. We can certainly see this in the Wiccan adoption of the (originally Christian and symbolizing the Five Wounds of Christ) pentagram!

The pentagram has become so ingrained in the minds of many people as being a pagan symbol that even I was jarred when I walked into a church (now no longer in use) several years ago and saw the repeated motif of the interlaced five-pointed star in the stained glass windows!

Those who rail against this holiday spend a lot of time attacking the outward symbols as being pagan .... and they are right. These symbols are pagan in origin. But are they still thought of as pagan by most Christians?

I find I must repeat what I wrote in my article on Christmas:

"You see, symbols mean what your culture has taught you they mean. If when you look at the Cross you think of Jesus of Nazareth and see a symbol of redemption you are interpeting it as a Christian symbol. If you see it as a gallows; as a means of executing criminals against the State, then you are seeing it as an ancient Roman would. There are many other pagan associations with the cross, including the Norse sun-cross and it's usage as a generalized solar symbol. Should we then interpet the Cross as a pagan symbol? Of course not!

Equally, no one sees the symbols of Christmas (or Easter!) detailed above as anything other than either symbols of a commercialized, secular holiday or the birth of the Child. The past pagan associations these symbols had are pretty much dead, and the notion of an Eternal Conspiracy to demonize these symbols is prima facie silly. These are symbols and traditions, deeply engraved in the folk conciousness, that have simply taken on a much deeper meaning."

"And if the devil has been trying to 'pervert it's symbols thru the ages, giving them pagan meanings,' then to view them as such is to fall into Old Scratch's trap, isn't it?"

If this "rebirth of a dead deity" pagan story is only a myth spread by Satan, then it follows that it blew up in the Old Liar's face when it was made fact.

There is no evil in this holiday, nor in it's trappings. Only a Great Truth!

Good morning everyone! It's 9:47 am here, should be having my breakfast but still on cooking,on it's way.So I am here on my PC writing down an entry.Today is suppossedly my smear test appointment and I was raring to go but due to my crazy menstral cycle who just randomly come in a surprise my appointment is cancelled.Re-scheduled has been done and it would be next 2 weeks.I am due since after my birthday that was January and since then I was unable to picked a right dates for it.[SIGH]

Yesterday,I was invited by a friend to have a sort of late lunch at their house. She cooked us a proper filipino Chicken Adobo and it was really tasty. We didn't stay that long for it was kinda late and we had to drop by into the park before dark.Headed home around 30 mins after our meal,I know it wasn't right but rude of me for rushing home but Bea understood completely and didn't make a fuss.Weather was not great anyway,it was freezing at about 37 deegree's.If not because of Kath I would have stay longer. But I promised kath I will take her somewhere to have fun with since it's her holiday. So it is,I took my kids and it was worth even it's freezing but still they both enjoyed and had so much fun and clearly the weather didn't bothered them at all though I can see their hands are both red and both had a teardrop caused by the very cold gasp of wind.Simple pleasure I can assure and it don't cost anything.

April Fools Day!Origin and History!

April Fools' Day, sometimes called All Fools' Day, is one of the most light hearted days of the year. Its origins are uncertain. Some see it as a celebration related to the turn of the seasons, while others believe it stems from the adoption of a new calendar.

New Year's Day Moves
Ancient cultures, including those as varied as the Romans and the Hindus, celebrated New Year's Day on or around April 1. It closely follows the vernal equinox (March 20th or March 21st.) In medieval times, much of Europe celebrated March 25, the Feast of Annunciation, as the beginning of the new year.

In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII ordered a new calendar (the Gregorian Calendar) to replace the old Julian Calendar. The new calendar called for New Year's Day to be celebrated Jan. 1. That year, France adopted the reformed calendar and shifted New Year's day to Jan. 1. According to a popular explanation, many people either refused to accept the new date, or did not learn about it, and continued to celebrate New Year's Day on April 1. Other people began to make fun of these traditionalists, sending them on "fool's errands" or trying to trick them into believing something false. Eventually, the practice spread throughout Europe.

Problems With This Explanation
There are at least two difficulties with this explanation. The first is that it doesn't fully account for the spread of April Fools' Day to other European countries. The Gregorian calendar was not adopted by England until 1752, for example, but April Fools' Day was already well established there by that point. The second is that we have no direct historical evidence for this explanation, only conjecture, and that conjecture appears to have been made more recently.

Constantine and Kugel
Another explanation of the origins of April Fools' Day was provided by Joseph Boskin, a professor of history at Boston University. He explained that the practice began during the reign of Constantine, when a group of court jesters and fools told the Roman emperor that they could do a better job of running the empire. Constantine, amused, allowed a jester named Kugel to be king for one day. Kugel passed an edict calling for absurdity on that day, and the custom became an annual event.

"In a way," explained Prof. Boskin, "it was a very serious day. In those times fools were really wise men. It was the role of jesters to put things in perspective with humor."

This explanation was brought to the public's attention in an Associated Press article printed by many newspapers in 1983. There was only one catch: Boskin made the whole thing up. It took a couple of weeks for the AP to realize that they'd been victims of an April Fools' joke themselves.

Spring Fever
It is worth noting that many different cultures have had days of foolishness around the start of April, give or take a couple of weeks. The Romans had a festival named Hilaria on March 25, rejoicing in the resurrection of Attis. The Hindu calendar has Holi, and the Jewish calendar has Purim. Perhaps there's something about the time of year, with its turn from winter to spring, that lends itself to lighthearted celebrations.

Observances Around the World
April Fools' Day is observed throughout the Western world. Practices include sending someone on a "fool's errand," looking for things that don't exist; playing pranks; and trying to get people to believe ridiculous things.

The French call April 1 Poisson d'Avril, or "April Fish." French children sometimes tape a picture of a fish on the back of their schoolmates, crying "Poisson d'Avril" when the prank is discovered.
